Leonard says Alliance is the future as vote increases

Allan Leonard, Alliance Party candidate in Fermanagh & South Tyrone, has stated that the massive vote increase for Alliance shows that it is the party of the future and the Ulster Unionists and SDLP are in serious decline. Alliance increased its share of the vote in 14 of the 17 constituencies it stood in and it gained an additional Assembly seat.

Allan Leonard said: “People see that Alliance has grasped the initiative and are making large gains. This vote has delivered a massive increase in our percentage across Northern Ireland.

“We have increased our vote in 14 constituencies and very few other parties can say that.

“In Fermanagh & South Tyrone, I am pleased that since the previous elections to the Assembly, over twice as many voters made a first preference choice for the Alliance alternative to tribal politics.

“I received a positive response wherever I went and with those I met. I made a particular effort with the ethnic minority communities, and I was particularly encouraged by the personal feedback.

“Indeed, the election of Anna Lo in South Belfast, the first Chinese elected representative in an UK regional assembly, is testament to the new way forward in Northern Ireland. Alliance is the party of progress, and these results have shown that the SDLP and UUP are being abandoned.

“I remain indebted to all those who gave me their first choice vote, and to all those in Fermanagh & South Tyrone who share the Alliance vision for a shared and more prosperous future for Northern Ireland.”
